I Wasn't Looking for a Business. I Was Looking for a Door.

When I started painting, I thought I needed more talent.
More knowledge.
Better supplies.
The perfect course.
The perfect plan.
I even found myself wondering where I might sell my paintings before I had painted a single one.
Perhaps you recognize that way of thinking.
We become so focused on outcomes that we forget why we wanted to begin in the first place.
The funny thing is, I wasn't looking for a business.
I wasn't looking for a gallery.
I wasn't looking for another project.
I was looking for a door.
A door back to curiosity.
A door back to play.
A door back to that feeling of losing track of time because you're completely absorbed in something you enjoy.
Somewhere along the way, many of us stop allowing ourselves that.
We become practical.
Responsible.
Efficient.
Every hobby needs a purpose.
Every interest needs a plan.
Every hour needs to be justified.
And before we know it, we have quietly closed the door on the very things that once made us feel alive.
Painting became one of my ways back.
Not because I knew where it would lead.
Not because I had a strategy.
Simply because something inside me wanted to create.
The paintings hanging in my Gallery Room are the result of that decision, but they are not the most important part of the story.
The most important part is that I opened the door.
Because once you open one room, something interesting happens.
You begin to notice other rooms.
The Music Room.
The Writing Room.
The Adventure Room.
The Play Room.
The Dreams-You-Put-On-Hold Room.
And suddenly life feels a little bigger again.
A little more colourful.
A little more like your own.
So if there is something you have been wanting to try—painting, singing, dancing, writing, horseback riding, learning a language, planting a garden, or something only you know about—perhaps you don't need a five-year plan.
Perhaps you don't need permission.
Perhaps you don't even need confidence.
Perhaps you simply need to open the door.
And see what is waiting for you on the other side.
