If Getting Dressed Could Be Creative?

I never set out to create a t-shirt collection.
In fact, if you had told me a few years ago that I would be designing clothing, I probably would have laughed.
I thought design belonged to designers.
Fashion belonged to fashion people.
And creating a collection sounded far too serious for someone like me.
But I've started to notice a pattern in my life.
The things that bring me the most joy rarely begin with a grand plan.
They begin with curiosity.
A small idea.
A playful thought.
A door that asks to be opened.
The Design Room opened that way.
It began with words.
Little reminders I wanted to see more of in the world.
Words about slowing down.
Beginning again.
Choosing joy.
Following curiosity.
Remembering that life is not a race.
And one day I thought:
What if I could wear those reminders?
Not as fashion statements.
But as gentle nudges.
Little pieces of encouragement woven into everyday life.
That's how Lou Lou's Closet was born.
Not from a business strategy.
Not from a market analysis.
But from a desire to create something meaningful, playful, and beautiful.
Something that feels like an extension of the conversations we have here at SheStartsAt50.
Because what we wear tells a story.
Not for other people.
For ourselves.
A favourite t-shirt can become a reminder.
A declaration.
A tiny act of self-expression.
A way of saying:
This is who I am.
Or perhaps:
This is who I am becoming.
The Design Room reminds me that creativity doesn't have to stay on a canvas.
It can live in our homes.
Our journals.
Our music.
Our gardens.
And yes, even in our wardrobes.
So if you've ever found yourself thinking, "I'm not creative," I would gently challenge that idea.
Creativity is not reserved for artists.
It belongs to all of us.
Sometimes it appears as a painting.
Sometimes as a song.
Sometimes as a beautifully cooked meal.
And sometimes it appears as a simple t-shirt carrying a message that makes you smile every time you put it on.
Perhaps there is a Design Room within you too.
A room where self-expression matters more than perfection.
A room where playfulness is welcome.
A room where you get to decide what your next chapter looks like.
If so, maybe it's time to open the door.
